TITANIC TACKLE

Titanic Tackle fishing lures are handmade folk art sculpture. Each lure started out life as a tree, that is to say each lure is made from solid pine stock. The pine boards are glued together to form the blanks. The edges are trimmed off the blanks to give it the shape of a long hexagon. The blanks are now ready for the lathe. Using a sharp tool called a gouge Lunker Luke cuts away all the wood that doesn't look like a fish. Then he sands and sands the lure until it's as smooth as a pikes belly. The next step is to prime the wood so it will take the rich colors that are to make the lure look as lifelike as possible. Three coats of polyurethane are applied to make the Lure as shiny as fish slime, the eyes are added and the process is almost complete. Luke now becomes a bit of a blacksmith, to make sure the lure has a realistic look he pounds, bends, solders and sharpens #4 copper wire into the very large treble hooks that you would expect to find on such a large lure. Some lures will have the name of your boat, business, address, or your name printed on them, some will have colorful tassels made of thick vinyl, just indicate your preference.
